This handsome fellow is Independence, otherwise known as Indy. If you’ve read “Camp Emmaus,” you’re familiar with Samson, Lizzie’s Diabetic Alert Dog. Indy is the inspiration for Samson.
Indy’s living a life of retirement now, but for several years he worked as my DAD, alerting me when my blood glucose level went outside of a specified range. He was, and is, amazing and has performed all of the alerts that Samson does in “Emmaus” including those that Lizzie spoke of. While he did not retrieve my insulin pump from a crazed ex-boyfriend stalker (fortunately I do not have one of those, or else he’s incredibly subtle about it), a number of times Indy reminded me that I forgot to reattach my pump if I found it necessary to temporarily detach it.
Ordinarily I immortalize the special animals that have blessed my life by using their names when I portray them in a novel. With Indy it was different however. He’s my service dog, not Lizzie’s. She had to have her own, and he needed his own name, and that’s how Samson was born.
Happy reading, and now I’ve got to get back to writing if “Isle” is to make a debut in early July as I’m hoping for. “Isle” is high on suspense without sacrificing the humor, and I’m having fun writing it yet so ready for people to be able to read it. I uploaded the description today, so click the link below and it will take you there!
Indy is simply the bestest!
