There was an upgrade to the theme I use on this blog, and it messed up all sorts of things! I was not happy. I kind of liked how it looked before, and wanted it fixed. So, I queried Brad, who used to be into web development, and I have no idea what he does now. It’s something to do with Linux, and he’s an engineer. He does the same thing John Turner, Miles and Anika’s friend, is studying for. That’s handy, because John sounds like he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to all things computer related, because I run it by Brad first. Anyway, back to the website and my disgruntled attitude toward the changes to the theme resulting from the update.
So I asked him, how do I fix this? What’s CSS, because on complaint forums people talk about correcting the idiotic looking aspects of the theme through meddling with the code. He said he has a book, I bought if for him right before he got out of web development. He offered it to me. I gave him a narrow eyed look. Yeah right! As if I could look at one of his computer books and do anything other than short circuit. No thank you, sir.
But, with much trepidation I figured out how to access the CSS code or whatever. Brad said, just go change things and see what happens. This time I looked at him askance. Oh my word! If I messed it up, how would I fix it back? So I changed one little thing at a time, and often rapidly changed it back. I did figure out how to fix the things that bugged me though, and I felt pleased. I didn’t learn anything new, but I did stumble around and somehow it all worked out the way I wanted. That doesn’t happen often.
“Last Chance Inn” is on page 266. I’m wrapping it up now, which is good, since it’s already out for preorder!
So, a note about Jack Ryland, the main character in the Investigations of Jack Ryland series. He’s in one of the later chapters of “Hiding Treasure,” which has a release date of December 18th. He’s also the nephew of Jackson, Miles and Anika’s primary private investigator. He’s going to accept a job working for Miles in the missing persons division of the Bannerman Foundation (which Miles and Anika discussed creating in “Darkness Falls”).
The world of my characters is small, and their paths often cross and intertwine. I enjoy weaving several entirely different books together, each complete in and of itself, but fitting together to create a bigger picture.
I’ve given myself until 8:00 tonight to work on “Last Chance Inn,” then it’s off to proofread “Hiding Treasure” one last time. So happy reading, and I’m going to see just how many pages I can get written in t he next 54 minutes!
