I don’t have writer’s blockIMG_1151 thank goodness, but I do find since starting this blog yesterday I’ve done less writing on my books than I usually accomplish in a day.  I have… Writer’s Blog.  It’s diverted my attention.

Each of my books contain cats, dogs, or both.  The majority of them are based on real pets that I’ve loved over the years.  Or been harassed by, as in the case of my daughter’s cat, Pandora, after whom Miles’s cat is named.

Pandora, the flesh and blood one, is deeply determined to take over my chair.  I do not know what the fascination is, but as you can see in the photo she’s giving me a rather pointed look.  There are plenty of chairs in the house, but nope, this is the one she wants.  I’ve learned to close my laptop when I step away, as she has at times made additions and deletions to whichever novel I’m working on at the time.  If it weren’t for the “undo” feature in Word… a great deal of Stonecastle Inn would have required a re-write, and this writer would have been more than a little irate!

Pandora picked out my daughter as her person when Pandy (as we call her) was three weeks old, and Emily was five.  The saga began when Brad (my husband and Emily’s Dad) and I, had the bright idea to get her a puppy.  That’s what she wanted.  Well none of us wanted the distemper that came home from the animal shelter with Snuggles.  We did everything for her that could possibly be done, but to no avail.  Realizing Snuggles was losing the battle after a month and a half spent fighting the evil disease, we made the decision to divert Emily’s attention with a kitten.

Visiting Snuggles at the Animal Hospital the next day, Emily spied a kennel full of tiny little feline fur-balls.  Of course she latched right on to that, and sat down in front of it to talk to them.  The end result was that the Vet Tech who was fostering them let Emily pick one out.  It didn’t quite work out that way though, Pandy picked her instead.  When Emily stood up to see the kitten in the kennel above, Pandy climbed the bars of her own kennel (at three weeks of age no less) and complained until Emily sat back down.  When the Tech let all of the kittens out so Emily could play with them, Pandy took up residence on her lap while the others hobbled around the room.  I’ve never seen an animal so determined to keep someone.  But she was, and a week later when she was eating solid food we brought her home.  She’s been loyal to Emily ever since.

I’m off to make another latte, thanks to my Keurig espresso/latte machine.  I’ll have to fight to get my chair back when I return, but… for a foamy vanilla latte with whipped cream, it’ll be worth it!
